Pops - The eternal enfant terrible of the violin returns

par Philharmonie Luxemburg

Opposites attract, so it seems, and when they meet, this brings about unforgettable experiences. If this conventional wisdom is true, the 2012/13 «Pops» series should prove truly memorable.

The British violinist Nigel Kennedy invites you to an unusual meeting that defies time – that of Bach and Fats Waller. Accompanied by a percussionist, guitarist and bassist in an acoustic session for the jazz part, Kennedy has composed ingenious arrangements for the violin to make the Grand Auditorium swing.

A week after presenting their new project –  an homage to Wagner – in Bayreuth, the seven mischievous Austrians of Mnozil Brass bring this brassy comedy to the Philharmonie and pay tribute to the master of opera for his 200th anniversary.

Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester make a big comeback in Luxembourg after a three-year absence. They present an original project written by Raabe and Annette Humpe – who is definitely more familiar with German pop than pre-war music.

For the great annual event «Pops at the Phil», the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, conducted by Gast Waltzing, hosts an exceptional special guest on stage: none other than Kurt Elling. The encounter between the Chicago jazz singer – voted male vocalist of the year for the twelfth year in a row by the DownBeat Critics Poll – and the orchestra promises an electrifying evening.
