Musica Surfica

par Philharmonie Luxemburg

Musicians and surfers at the top of their art; performing at the edge of the world

Musica Surfica is a documentary that follows one man's creative journey. Richard Tognetti, the Artistic Director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, is a world-renowned violinist and a life-long surfer. He teams up with surfing virtuoso Derek Hynd to bring together a unique gathering of classical musicians and top surfers on remote King Island, as they explore new boundaries in experimental surfing, riding surfboard without fins.

It's an experiment that demands fresh thinking, or ancient methods to keep control... with an imperative to take risks in order to explore and develop new ideas... in surfing, music and in life.

"They were not just riding these ancient Hawaïen wooden boards to get back to the beach. It was an act of self expression of the very deep and profound nature. And using those beautiful wooden boards, they were instruments on which they dance!"

On December 7, the Australian Chamber Orchestra (with Richard Tognetti and Martin Fröst) will be at the Philharmonie, playing Haydn, Vasks and Mozart. Prior to the concert, in our "Backstage" series, we'll show you Musica Surfica. Film starts at 7 p.m. in the Espace Découverte! Dont' miss it!
