Léon Ni

Trombone

The American-born trombonist Leon Ni has been soloist with the OPL since 2004. Before his arrival in Luxembourg, he spent three years as the section principal trombone of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera and one year with the Orchestre Nacional do Porto in Portugal. He studied music at Boston University with Ronald Barron (former principal, Boston Symphony) and at Temple University with Nitzan Haroz (principal trombone, Los Angeles Philharmonic). Afterwards, he furthered his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London, studying with Ian Bousfield (former principal of the Vienna Philharmonic) and Dudley Bright (principal trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra). He is an avid chamber musician and is a founding member of the award-winning brass quintet the Ni Ensemble. He also plays the sackbut with the Luxembourg period music ensemble Quatricinia. He enjoys gardening, cycling, beer, and yoga.
