They say the piano, with its 88 keys, is an orchestra in itself. Throughout the month of March, the Philharmonie will show audiences that this instrument may also hold the key to their hearts…
Here are a few selected highlights to journey on towards World Piano Day, taking place –that’s easy to guess!– on 29.03., the 88th day of the year...
Hélène Grimaud
The journey commences pianissimo on 05.03. with Hélène Grimaud. With the touch of her fingertips, the French performer interprets intimate classics from Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms.
Javier Perianes
A secret garden, the heavy and fragrant heat of a summer night... A dream? Not for composer Manuel de Falla who summons on 10.03. the magic of his native Andalusia in Noches en los jardines de España.
Yuja Wang

Has already taken placeSince 2015, the 88th day of every year has been designated the Day of the Piano – in homage to the instrument’s 88 keys. In 2023, this day is celebrated all over the world on March 29. Anyone who cannot wait until this feast day, however, can whet their appetite at the Philharmonie Luxembourg, which offers a selection of outstanding pianists: on March 5, Hélène Grimaud plays works by Bach, Beethoven and Schumann in a recital preceded by an introductory talk by Martin Möller in German at the Salle de Musique de Chambre at 6:15 pm. On March 20, Daniil Trifonov performs a Rachmaninov programme, forming a duo with his teacher Sergey Babayan.
